A Moment at a Leprosy Colony

p1010399Catching butterflies
that flit and twirl
dashing down cobblestone
shimmering sunlight glistens
through guava leaves.
Twirling taste of gardenia
twined between hairs.
Rice patty sea flows
‘round me
and I leap while
crunching cucumbers.

Note: This picture and odd little poem were in response to visiting a leprosy colony. Overwhelmed by the courage and joy of the people I met, I chose to honor them not by showing what they were missing (fingers, toes, an ear, a nose) but by admiring their beautiful garden. I was honored to be their guest.
